Sustainability on Stage: Greener Future of Live Events

Earth Day 2025

At Be United, we believe creativity and care for the planet go hand-in-hand. As an organisation rooted in cultural celebration and community impact, we’re continually asking: how can we create powerful live experiences while reducing our environmental footprint?

Sustainability in events isn’t just a trend — it’s a responsibility. And it doesn’t require big budgets or perfect solutions to start making a difference. For us, it begins with small, mindful choices:

  • Local focus: We work with Scotland-based artists, producers and suppliers wherever possible, reducing travel and supporting the local creative economy.
  • Digital-first: From e-tickets to online programmes, we avoid unnecessary printing and waste.
  • Low-impact materials: We reuse, repurpose and try to keep our production footprint light — whether it’s branded banners or staff lanyards.
  • Public transport encouragement: We always encourage low-emission travel for our audiences, with public transport information available on our event’s website pages.

These values are shared across the Be United team. In a recent internal survey, our team highlighted their personal and professional commitments to sustainability — from recycling and digital-only communications to encouraging local artist participation to reduce carbon-heavy travel. Many also expressed a strong desire to raise more awareness within the industry and continue pushing for greener choices in every aspect of our work.

We’re still learning — and there’s always more we can do but we are excited to take the steps towards the greener future of live events.

None of this happens in isolation — we’re proud to be part of a growing community of artists, audiences, and organisers who care deeply about the future of our planet. Every small choice adds up, and together, we’re proving that creativity and sustainability can thrive side by side. Here’s to building a greener, more conscious future for live events — one show at a time!
