About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Marketing & Media Assistant to support the delivery of Be United’s marketing, digital communications, and creative media output. You will work closely with the Marketing, Media and Communications Manager to produce high-quality digital content, manage day-to-day digital and offline marketing activity, support website and newsletter delivery, and contribute to the visibility and impact of Be United’s work across Scotland. 

This is a hands-on creative and technical role requiring strong graphic design skillsadvanced video editing ability, and confidence producing content within a professional setting. You will help ensure our brand, communications, and digital presence are consistent, accessible, and aligned with our organisational values and funder requirements. 

The role also involves supporting the Marketing, Media and Communications Manager with media outreach and delivery, coordinating with freelancers and brand ambassadors, capturing content at events, and gathering analytics, insights, and feedback for reporting. 

This position is ideal for a digital creative with strong communication abilities who is passionate about Scotland’s cultural sector and committed to supporting Black communities and creatives. 


Key Responsibilities

Digital Content Creation 
  • Produce professional, high-quality graphic design materials for campaigns, programmes, announcements, and partnerships. 
  • Create and edit video content for social media, events, and digital storytelling. 
  • Develop visuals, motion assets, promotional materials, and branded graphics. 
  • Maintain and organise Be United’s digital asset libraries and brand templates. 
Social Media Delivery 
  • Create and schedule content across Be United platforms. 
  • Maintain an active content calendar (minimum 3 weeks ahead). 
  • Respond to comments, messages, and community interactions on Be United’s social media channels. 
  • Monitor sector trends, conversations, and relevant online activity. 
  • Ensure all communications, printed and digital assets reflect Be United’s values, tone, and accessibility commitments. 
Website Management & Digital Updates 

The Marketing Assistant will support the Marketing, Media & Communications Manager by maintaining, updating, and improving Be United’s website and digital platforms. This includes: 

  • Uploading and formatting website content (e.g.: news, blog posts, event pages, resources). 
  • Ensuring accessibility (e.g.: alt text, readable layout, clear structure, correct heading levels). 
  • Updating images, graphics, and site media. 
  • Ensuring content is accurate, consistent, and up to date. 
  • Maintaining Be United’s visual identity across all digital pages. 
  • Making basic front-end adjustments using HTML and CSS (e.g.: formatting, layout fixes, spacing, embeds, styling). 
  • Troubleshooting minor website issues within WordPress, Wix, or similar CMS platforms. 
  • Supporting SEO best practices (e.g.: titles, descriptions, tagging). 
Newsletter Production & Distribution 

The Marketing & Media Assistant will support the Marketing, Media & Communications Manager in delivering regular newsletters, membership updates, and public communications, including: 

  • Drafting, formatting, and scheduling newsletters. 
  • Writing clear, engaging copy for updates, campaigns, and announcements. 
  • Sourcing and preparing images, graphics, and videos for newsletter use. 
  • Helping maintain mailing lists, segmentation, and contact organisation. 
  • Ensuring newsletters meet accessibility, brand, and tone-of-voice standards. 
  • Supporting the Media, Marketing & Communications Manager in coordinating newsletter content contributions from the Be United team. 
  • Supporting analytics, reporting, and continuous improvement of newsletter engagement. 
Membership Support  

The Marketing Assistant will provide comprehensive support to the Marketing, Media & Communications Manager in the delivery, administration, communications, and promotion of Be United’s Membership Programme across all Be United memberships, including: 

  • Supporting the Marketing, Media & Communications Manager in maintaining accurate membership records, renewals, onboarding processes, and general member data across all membership categories. 
  • Assisting in managing and updating the digital systems underpinning membership. 
  • Drafting and delivering clear, accessible, and on-brand communications to members, including updates, opportunities, event information, notices, and membership benefit reminders. 
  • Supporting the Marketing, Media & Communications Manager in creating a positive member experience by helping coordinate engagement activities, responding to general member enquiries, and ensuring members feel supported and connected to the organisation. 
  • Carry out administrative tasks required for the smooth running of the membership programme, supporting the Media, Marketing & Communications Manager with logistics, updates, data handling and coordination as needed. 
Media and PR 
  • Support the Marketing, Media & Communications Manager with the creation of press releases for announcements, partnerships, and organisational updates. 
  • Assist the Marketing, Media & Communications Manager with outreach to journalists, media platforms, blogs, and podcasts. 
  • Help maintain media contact lists and help build sector relationships. 
  • Support Marketing, Media & Communications Manager with coordination of brand ambassadors and external creatives or partners engaged in marketing activity. 
Event Coverage & Content Capture 

The Marketing Assistant will be responsible for: 

  • Producing live social media content during events. (e.g.: Instagram Stories, TikTok posts) 
  • Assisting with event branding setup, materials, and on-the-day organisation at events. 
  • Engaging with participants, artists, and guests to gather membership sign-ups and promote the Be United brand. 
Analytics, Reporting & Impact 
  • Support the Marketing, Media & Communications Manager with digital analytics across social media, newsletters, website, and campaigns. 
  • Assist with reporting on marketing outputs, reach, and engagement for funders and internal purposes. 
  • Help collect participant and audience feedback to support impact evaluation. 
Administrative & Team Support 
  • Work closely with freelancers, interns, and Brand Ambassadors within the Marketing, Media & Communications function. 
  • Organise shared marketing files, schedules, tools, and workflows. 
  • Assist with communications between the marketing team and wider Be United teams. 
  • Carry out general administrative and operational tasks to support the Marketing, Media & Communications function. 

Person Specification

Essential Criteria
  • Experience in graphic design within an organisational, creative, or professional context. 
  • Experience in video editing and digital video production
  • Proficient use of: 
  • Adobe Photoshop 
  • Adobe Illustrator 
  • Adobe InDesign 
  • Adobe Premiere Pro 
  • Canva 

Or other graphic design and video editing tools. 

  • Experience producing written content, organisational communications, or high-quality content writing
  • Experience in website development and content management systems. 
  • Experience producing newsletters and web-ready written content. 
  • Experience managing social media channels within a professional or organisational setting. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Knowledge or interest in Scotland’s screen, performing arts, and cultural events sectors
  • Appreciation of African, Caribbean, and wider Black diasporic cultures and contributions. 
  • Ability to engage authentically and respectfully with diverse communities. 
  • Strong digital literacy and confidence using online tools and content systems. 
Desirable Criteria
  • Understanding of accessibility best practices in digital communication. 
  • Knowledge of research and evaluation methods. 
  • Experience gathering analytics, feedback, or impact data. 
  • Experience in marketing, PR, or media roles in creative or cultural settings. 
  • Experience in media outreach or communications for organisations. 
  • Second language proficiency.

Length of contract of employment

Subject to the provisions below, this contract will be an open-ended contract. The Company reserves the right at its entire discretion to terminate your employment at any time by giving 4-weeks’ notice in writing. This could occur for funding reasons, operational reasons, or for any other reason that the Company deems appropriate.
