Reimagining Resources: Supporting Creativity in Uncertain Times

In the wake of challenging times for Scotland’s creative community, Be United invites  Black people working in the performing arts and cultural events sectors to join us for a free webinar which focuses on finding new ways to sustain and uplift our work. This session will be led by our Executive Director, Emma Sithole, and our Creative Director, Collin Hills, who bring a wealth of experience in advocating for and supporting people working in the creative industries.

This webinar will focus on:

  • Identifying Funding Streams: What current opportunities exist for creatives in Scotland and beyond? Learn how to navigate the complexities of available funding and understand which options might be right for you.
  • Signposting Resources: Guidance on where to find resources, organisations, and networks that can offer support beyond traditional funding.
  • Creative Solutions for Financial Sustainability: Explore alternative ways to fund your creative projects, from community-driven initiatives to collaborative efforts with organisations that support creatives.
  • Building Resilience in Difficult Times: How can you maintain and grow your creative practice? Discover practical strategies to thrive and sustain your work.

Why is this important?

With the Open Fund for Individuals recently reopened following the Scottish Government’s announcement to release £6.6 million in funding, the creative sector has seen both relief and lingering uncertainty. While this U-turn is a welcome development, there are still many unanswered questions about the long-term sustainability of support for the artists.

With the ongoing shifts in Scotland’s cultural funding landscape, Be United remains committed to being on the ground, doing what we do best—supporting people working in the creative industries. This webinar offers an opportunity to hold space, share knowledge, and explore creative solutions together.
