Marketing Assistants

Location: Remote / Scotland (hybrid) – Be United operates a hybrid working model, with team members primarily working remotely and attending in-person meetings and events in Edinburgh, Glasgow, or other locations across Scotland as required.
Rate: £13.45 per hour
Contract Term: Freelance contract (15 hours a week) from July 2026 – 31 October 2026

About the Role

We are seeking highly skilled Marketing Assistants to support the delivery of Be United’s marketing, digital communications, and creative media output.

This is a hands-on creative and technical role requiring strong graphic design skills, advanced video editing ability, and a solid understanding of administrative processes and organisational systems. The postholder will provide dedicated support to a specific department, while working closely with the Marketing, Media and Communications colleagues while contributing to the delivery of Be United’s wider marketing and communications objectives.

This position is ideal for a digital creative with strong communication abilities who is passionate about Scotland’s cultural sector and committed to supporting Black communities and creatives. 


Key Responsibilities

Content Creation & Design

  • Create branded digital content, graphics, promotional materials, presentations, and downloadable resources for assigned projects and programmes.
  • Produce and edit short-form video content for social media, events, campaigns, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Adapt existing Be United templates and brand assets for project-specific communications.
  • Support the creation of reports, PDFs, event materials, presentations, and promotional resources.

Project Communications

  • Deliver project-specific communications across social media, email, websites, and digital channels.
  • Draft engaging content including social media posts, newsletters, participant communications, event information, and promotional copy.
  • Schedule and publish content in line with agreed communications plans.
  • Support stakeholder engagement through clear, accessible, and inclusive communications.

Website & Digital Support

  • Update project pages, event information, resources, and content on Be United’s digital platforms.
  • Upload and format content in line with accessibility and brand standards.
  • Support basic website maintenance and content updates as required by the Marketing, Media & Communications Manager.

Event & Campaign Support

  • Support the promotion and delivery of events, conferences, campaigns, and organisational initiatives.
  • Create event marketing materials and digital assets.
  • Capture content during events, including photography, video, interviews, and live social media updates where required.
  • Assist with participant engagement, registrations, and communications.

Administrative & Organisational Support

  • Provide administrative support relating to marketing and communications activities.
  • Maintain organised digital files, content libraries, project trackers, and communication records.
  • Support meeting coordination, note-taking, scheduling, and follow-up actions where required.
  • Assist the CEO and Marketing, Media & Communications Manager with communications-related administration and project coordination.
  • Contribute to reporting, monitoring, and evaluation activities by collecting data, feedback, and engagement information.

Team Working

  • Work collaboratively with project teams, freelancers, contractors, and Be United staff.
  • Ensure all communications reflect Be United’s values, brand standards, accessibility commitments, and organisational priorities.
  • Support the CEO and the wider Marketing, Media & Communications team as required.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria
  • Experience in graphic design within an organisational, creative, or professional context. 
  • Experience in video editing and digital video production
  • Proficient use of: 
  • Adobe Photoshop 
  • Adobe Illustrator 
  • Adobe InDesign 
  • Adobe Premiere Pro 
  • Canva 

Or other graphic design and video editing tools. 

  • Experience producing written content, organisational communications, or high-quality content writing
  • Experience in website development and content management systems. 
  • Experience producing newsletters and web-ready written content. 
  • Experience managing social media channels within a professional or organisational setting. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Knowledge or interest in Scotland’s screen, performing arts, and cultural events sectors
  • Appreciation of African, Caribbean, and wider Black diasporic cultures and contributions. 
  • Ability to engage authentically and respectfully with diverse communities. 
  • Strong digital literacy and confidence using online tools and content systems. 
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and priorities.
Desirable Criteria
  • Understanding of accessibility best practices in digital communication. 
  • Event planning is a plus!
  • Knowledge of research and evaluation methods. 
  • Experience gathering analytics, feedback, or impact data. 
  • Experience in marketing, PR, or media roles in creative or cultural settings. 
  • Experience in media outreach or communications for organisations. 
  • Second language proficiency.
